Cam's parents dish on baby #2, Panthers season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cam Newton is about to have another baby! In an exclusive interview with NBC Charlotte’s Michelle Boudin, Cam’s parents talk about the new baby, the tough season and the hits he’s taken.

It’s hard for all of us to watch Cam get hit, but for his mom Jackie, it can be downright painful.

“It’s really hard on my heart, but I'm happy he's doing what he loves to do.”

This season there’s been a lot of heart-pounding hits; early on, Cam even called commissioner Roger Goddell with his concerns.

Jackie Newton says she had her own talk with her son, telling him, “You are not superman, believe me, I had you! So, please be careful!”

Dad Cecil admits it’s been hard for him this season, too.

“We were not far away when it comes to some of our victories or losses, it's kind of the way the ball is bouncing. I think we still are a good team-- we just haven’t gotten a lot of breaks this season.”

Still, the family has a lot to smile about.

Cam’s parents were in town from Atlanta to accept his award as one of the Charlotteans of the Year
for all the Panthers quarterback has done in the community.

Cecil Newton says, “That’s part of his responsibility of being successful.”

And they are excited; Cam’s first born chosen will turn one on Christmas Eve.

“We are all so excited-- Cam is happy, his first born-- so we are happy. It's going to be a giddy time of the year for us,” Jackie says.

Cam’s new baby is due any day now and Cecil is clearly thrilled.

"We are excited!”

Mom Jackie adds, “I have no idea what this one is going to be called, but we will be happy. So you were surprised like the rest of us?!”

Jackie says she was in the dark, just like the public, on Chosen's given name.

But she hasn't been surprised by Cam’s fashion choices.

“Do you weigh in?"

"Just a little bit, I’ve trained him well," she remarked.
